Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira, two of the top UFC middleweight kickboxers, fought for the title at UFC 281 on November 12 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
After five rounds, Pereira accomplished what he had already accomplished twice: he defeated “The Last Stylebender.” Adesanya appeared to be winning on the scorecards, so “Poatan” sought the finish and achieved it by scoring a late-fight TKO.
Pereira was crowned the new middleweight king at UFC 281, bringing his overall record in professional mixed martial arts to 7-1. Adesanya’s record dropped to 23-2 as he suffered his first defeat as a 185-pound UFC fighter.
At this point, it’s unclear if the promotion will grant The Last Stylebender an immediate rematch over the Brazilian.
