The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has vowed to appeal the National Industrial Court’s ruling ordering the seven-month-long strike by lecturers to cease immediately and for them to return to work.
Adelaja Odukoya, the chairman of the union’s Lagos State zone, said this in a statement on Wednesday.
Recall that on Wednesday, just after the industrial court delivered the order, ASUU’s National President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, said that the union’s leadership would convene to review the court’s decision.
Earlier today, the National Industrial Court ruled that the strike that began on February 14 of this year must end immediately and that all universities must resume immediately.
However, the union declared that it has begun assembling its legal counsel under the direction of well-known human rights advocate Femi Falana (SAN) in order to submit an appeal to contest the ruling. It urged its members to fight peacefully and as a unit to the bitter end.
