Popular Islamic cleric Alfa Gani Aboto was traveling from a da’wah event in Minna, Niger State, with his assistants Alfa Azeez Omoekun and Alfa Nurudeen when floodwater swept away his Toyota Yaris car as he attempted to cross a bridge near Harmony Estate/Kukende in the Akerebiata neighbourhood of Ilorin.
The victims’ remains were discovered inside the car on Saturday, October 1, 2022, when the state fire service pulled the vehicle out of a river next to Olusola Saraki Abattoir on Sobi Army Barracks Road in Ilorin.
The late sheik studied under the late Sheikh Kamaldeen Al-Adabiy, who was also the first mufti of Ilorin and the man behind the establishment of the Ansarul Islam Society of Nigeria. Additionally, he was a hafeedh and the state’s top instructor for Quran memorization.
On Sunday, following a janazah in Ilorin, his body was brought to his village of Aboto, Asa LGA of the state.
