A massive demonstration demanding justice over an alleged “leaked objectionable video” of female students that went viral on social media erupted last night at Chandigarh University in Mohali, Punjab.
According to reports, a female student filmed 60+ female students at her hostel while they were bathing and shared the videos with a boy from Shimla, which eventually went viral on social media.
According to information obtained, the claimed student was apprehended by fellow students and the dormitory warden.
According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the suspect committed the act because she was paid for it. Other accounts claim that she was allegedly threatened and under pressure from the specific boy who contracted her.
According to some students, seven female students attempted suicide, one of whom is reportedly deceased and a couple others have been admitted to a hospital.
Police and university officials, on the other hand, asserted that no such suicide has occurred. Additionally, there was only one video, which belonged to the accused and was sent to her boyfriend in Shimla.
A statement from Dr R S Bawa, Pro-Chancellor, Chandigarh University, reads:
“No student committed suicide nor any student is under going any treatment for any such attempt or for any such reason. Preliminary probe reveals that the accused girl had sent her own pics/videos to her boyfriend. No other material found. FIR filed. Police probing it. I appeal to students & parents not to believe in any rumours.”
Even though the police and CU say it’s only a rumor, there is a video circulating on social media that appears to show the accused accepting responsibility for the crime.
In other films, CU students can also be heard complaining that the university administration is attempting to conceal the truth in order to protect themselves from libel.
The alleged offender has already been taken into jail by the police, but the Shimla boy has not yet been detained.
“A man from Shimla is known to the accused girl. Only after he is caught, more details will be known. Forensic probe of her mobile phone will be conducted,” stated IG Gurpreet Deo.
